Wonder women from South: Kajal Aggarwal, Ileana D’Cruz and Asin gave Bollywood actresses a run for their money

South Indian cinema has often introduced brilliant actresses, who eventually go on to work in mainstream Bollywood and emerge as top talent. There have been a lot of Bollywood leading ladies, whose acting debut traces back to Tamil and Telugu films. While there is enough competition in Hindi films, with debutantes being launched everyone now and then, there are a few names that broke the mould and emerged victorious. From Kajal Aggarwal to Ileana D’Cruz, there were quite a few female stars from South who have impressed Bollywood filmmakers, bagged a project and eventually won over the audience with their debut performance. In the process, these stars have even given Bollywood actresses a run for their money, bagging massive films

Kajal marked her debut in Bollywood with Singam, which starred Ajay Devgn in the lead role. Coincidentally, Singam was the Hindi remake of Tamil film by the same name, starring Suriya and Anushka Shetty. Directed by Rohit Shetty, Bollywood’s Singam turned out to be a massive hit and is now a part of a cop universe backed by Karan Johar.

Ileana D’Cruz have debuted at the age of 16 in Telugu films, Ileana was the hot favourite of filmmakers down South and was cast in almost every other Telugu movie. And then she set her foot in Bollywood with Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Barfi, which is considered a work of outstanding cinema. Directed by Anurag Basu, Barfi is marked as the best film of his career and Ileana couldn’t have asked for a bigger start in Bollywood.

Asin is known for her performance in Telugu and Tamil films, Asin bagged the biggest hit of her career with Ghajini which starred Suriya. The film was later remade in Bollywood with Aamir Khan in the lead; Asin was roped in to reprise in her role from the original. And then there was no looking back for the Malayalam girl. From Salman Khan to Akshay Kumar, Asin has worked with top stars from the industry and ruled the roost for quite a while.
