A woman who was also a mother of two consumed pesticide and took her life at Subramanya Nagar. The woman’s family has alleged dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws.
The deceased, Shwetha Rao, 26, got married to Rakesh in November 2016. The couple has two children – the elder child is one-and-a-half years old and the younger one is a toddler of six months. Shwetha was in her parents’ place for the last few months after delivering the second child.
Her brother Sanjay Rao, in his complaint, has alleged that Rakesh and his mother had been harassing her over non-payment of dowry during marriage. Recently, Rakesh had come to their house and slapped Shwetha during an argument over dowry and had told her not to return home unless she brought dowry.
“My sister was dejected over this. She left home for a shop on April 16 and sent me an image of a pesticide bottle on WhatsApp telling she was consuming it as she was only giving pain to her family. I called and consoled her. But soon, her phone was switched off. We rushed in search of her and found her lying on a street unconscious. We rushed her to K.C. General Hospital, but she was declared brought dead,” said Sanjay Rao in his complaint.
