District in charge Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader G.T. Deve Gowda said here on Wednesday that A H Vishwanath, who announced his resignation as the party State president, would be persuaded to reconsider his decision.
Speaking to reporters here, Gowda said notwithstanding the Hunsur MLA’s decision to resign, efforts are on to convince him to withdraw his resignation and continue as president.
Gowda was all praise for Congress–JD(S) coordination committee chairman Siddaramaiah and appreciated the governance and administration during his tenure as the Chief Minister.
Reacting to MLA Tanveer Sait’s remarks that Vishwanath was responsible for the defeat of the Congress candidate in Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency, Gowda said both parties had to share the blame and the differences would be resolved for the smooth functioning of the coalition government.
Earlier in the day, Sait lashed out at Vishwanath for his failure to ensure adequate lead for Mysuru Congress candidate C H Vijayshankar, in K R Nagar and Hunsur. Sait said this was proof enough that the principles of the coalition were not followed.
‘Modi wave swept coalition away’
Devegowda had disagreed with state JD(S) chief A H Vishwanath that lack of coordination between the coalition partners had led to the defeat of its party supremo, H D Deve Gowda in the Lok Sabha elections and attributed it entirely to a Modi wave.
“There was a huge Modi wave in the entire nation and that is why the BJP saw such a big victory in the state. That alone was the reason for the defeat of both the JD(S) and Congress in the state,” he told reporters here, adding that his party too would set up a committee like the Congress to assess the reasons for its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.
