Bengaluru: Three persons including the son of an ASI have been arrested by the HAL police on Thursday for allegedly stealing laptops from PG accommodations and selling them online.

According to police, the accused used to hire rental bikes and roam in areas where PGs are located. They would look for laptops kept near windows and would steal them. Recently such a theft case was reported in HAL police limits by a complainant named Nagesh.
During the investigation, police got CCTV footage where the accused had come on a rented bike to the PG. After getting the bike’s registration number, police went to the firm that provided the bike on rent. Upon inquiry, they found that the trio were frequently hiring the bike. Based on a tip off, police raided a lodge in majestic where the accused were staying. However, the trio were one step ahead and had escaped by the time police reached the spot. However, with the help of Call Details Record police tracked them.
According to the police, after stealing a laptop, they would buy the necessary accessories for it and post an advertisement on OLX, a classified portal and sell it. They have been doing it since 2011. Police have seized 40 laptops from the trio and said they are yet to recover around 50 more laptops.
