Sushant Singh Rajput won’t be reaching for the stars any time soon what with rumours of his space movie, Chanda Mama Door Ke, being shelved buzzing around. However, if some reports are to be believed he is going to play the main lead in the remake of the Hollywood hit, The Fault in Our Stars. In a story done by Mumbai Mirror, it is said that Sushant in being considered to get into Ansel Elgort’s shoes in the remake, that will also mark the directorial debut of the casting director, Mukesh Chabbra.
Chabbra himself confirmed this when he spoke the paper where he revealed, “Yes, I am on board for The Fault in Our Stars remake. I’m working on the script at the moment. Sushant is the leading man and we are still in the process of casting the heroine.” The movie is to be produced by Fox Studios, and will begin shooting from next year.
A source close to the project told the paper how Sushant came on board, as it said, “Mukesh was the one who introduced Sushant to Abhishek Kapoor for Kai Po Che! He had always wanted to work with him and felt he would be perfect for this film. He is currently on the lookout for his leading lady. Though inspired by the Hollywood film, the script will be adapted to Indian sensibilities.”
This is not the first time the weepy, mushy Hollywood hit, based on the novel by the same name has been in the news for a remake. Earlier we had heard about how Karan Johar had snapped the rights for the movie, and planned to remake it with Alia Bhatt in the lead. Then we heard that the remake could be a launchpad for the upcoming starkids, Ishaan Khattar and Jhanvi Kapoor. Now that Sushant is playing the lead, though he is definitely too old to play a teen, we wonder whom they will sign next to play the female lead.
Talking about the original movie, The Fault in Our Stars is about two cancer-afflicted teens who fall in love with each other, even as they battle the disease that’s eating them as well as fears of the looming death lurking around. Shailene Woodley played the female lead in the movie.
