Students protest against seizure of vehicles from campus

Mysuru: Tension prevailed for a while outside St. Joseph’s Educational Institutions on Hunsur Road here on Thursday after the police seized two-wheelers involved in traffic offences from the parking lot of the campus.

Several students staged a protest outside the campus against the seizure of their vehicles, disrupting traffic on the road. The seized vehicles had been taken away to the V.V. Puram police station.

The students dispersed only after senior traffic police officers arrived at the spot and defused the situation.

  1. Madaiah, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said the traffic police had seized 13 two-wheelers against which Field Traffic Violation Record (FTVR) cases were pending, for various offences including riding without helmet, reckless and negligent riding, defective number plate, modified silencer, etc.

Several students had removed vehicle accessories such as silencers and kept them on the institution premises, he said. The seized vehicles were released after the students paid the penalty.

The police had received a number of complaints against rash and negligent riding of two-wheelers by youngsters. The youngsters had replaced stock horns with shrill horns, besides modifying the silencers, in violation of the Central Motor Vehicles rules.
