A man repeatedly called his missing girlfriend’s husband, asking him to send her back to him. After 25 calls, the furious husband, who had no clue about his estranged wife’s whereabouts, fixed a rendezvous with her boyfriend. Hoping to get the woman back, the boyfriend arrived at the designated place only to be hacked to death by her spouse.
Mani alias Manikanta, 33, a truck driver from Byadarahalli, has been arrested for allegedly murdering Thimmegowda, 37, his wife Ramya’s lover.
Police said Ramya and Manikanta were married for 11 years and have a minor daughter. “In 2018, Thimmegowda, an auto driver, moved to a house near Manikanta’s residence. In no time, Ramya fell in love with Thimmegowda. He shifted to Sunkadakatte and Ramya moved in with him,” police said. However, Ramya left Thimmegowda in August this year and began living with a friend near Ullala, police said. Manikanta was not aware of the development, while Thimmegowda assumed Ramya had returned to her husband.
“On the night of October 14, Thimmegowda, while downing liquor in a bar, called Manikanta, asking him to send Ramya back to him. Unaware that Ramya had spurned Thimmegowda, Manikanta abused him. Thimmegowda called Manikanta 25 times. Losing patience, Manikanta asked Thimmegowda to meet him near Sunkadakatte and hacked him to death,” police said.
The minor girl is staying with Manikanta’s sister, police said. “We summoned Ramya to record her statement. Manikanta’s family said she was responsible for Thimmegowda’s murder.
