Bengaluru: In a twist to the sensational rape and murder case of Sowjanya, the special court on Tuesday directed the CBI to further investigate and file supplementary charge sheet. Sowjanya, a II PU student, was found dead in Ujire near Dharmasthala on October 10, 2012.
The 51th Additional Session Court judge passed the order after admitting the petition filed by Chandrappa Gowda, father of Sowjanya, questioning the charge sheet filed by the CBI.
Mr. Gowda in his petition had said that there could be more than one person involved in the rape and murder. The doctor who conducted the autopsy also deposed before the court that there could be more than one person involved in the crime.
Taking all this into consideration the court had directed the CBI to further investigate, Special Public Prosecutor Shivananda Perla said.
The prosecution has so far examined around 15 witnesses including the doctor, DNA experts, father and uncle of Sounjanya and the security guards.
The Criminal Investigation Department, which is investigating the case, filed a charge sheet against Sanjeev Rao on January 10, 2013, keeping an option open to file supplementary charge sheet. But, the CID could not find the involvement of any other person in the incident.
