Shahid Kapoor reveals how wife Mira convinced him to play Kabir Singh

While the winner of #BLBestof6 best film is yet to be out yet, we know for a fact that Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh is a running contender. It is also the talk of the town and how! The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has proven to be a huge spinner at the box office. The intense love drama has not only become a rage amongst cine goers but it also has fans hailing Shahid Kapoor for his career-best performance in the remake of the hit Telugu film Arjun Reddy, which starred Vijay Deverakonda. Even fan clubs down South have appreciated Shahid’s unique portrayal of the angst and grief of a heartbroken but alcoholic, cocaine snorting surgeon. So much so that the film has already managed to garner Rs 239.97 crores.

Yes, the massive hit has also received flak from critics and critical thinkers who have flagged it as highly problematic. In fact, the buzz is strong on social media about the same and how triggering it is especially for women who have undergone abuse but the box office has remained untouched. Even director Sandeep Reddy Vanga came under fire for his problematic interview but Shahid is in a happy space considering it his biggest hit. In a recent interview, he even opened about the same and revealed that it was his wife Mira Kapoor who convinced him to do the part. “She was always very optimistic and believed that this is a character I should have in my filmography. We had watched Arjun Reddy together and she loved the director’s work and felt that the character had potential. And if we were able to get it right, it’d be a very special character in my life. So, Mira was very happy when she watched the film.”

Earlier, Shahid had posted a lengthy post, thanking fans and well-wishers for their love for the ‘flawed’ character that was Kabir Singh.

The film also stars Arjan Bajwa, Soham Majumdar and Suresh Oberoi in key roles. It is produced under the banners of Cine 1 Studios and T-Series.
