Shahid Kapoor refuses Karan Johar’s offer to star in Hindi remake of ‘Dear Comrade

Even before Vijay Deverkonda and Rashmika Mandana’s Dear Comrade released in the cinemas, filmmaker Karan Johar acquired the rights of its Hindi remake. Interestingly, KJo was the first person in Bollywood who watched Dear Comrade before anyone else. Vijay Deverkonda and the team of his film flew to Mumbai to meet KJo and as soon as Karan saw the film, he decided to remake the Telugu movie into Hindi. Apparently, Karan paid a whopping amount of Rs 6 crore to the makers to acquire the rights of Dear Comrade.

Needless to say, when KJo announced the Hindi remake of Dear Comrade, speculations about the film’s lead actor started doing the rounds. It was said that Vijay Deverkonda himself would play the lead role, however, the actor politely declined the offer as he did not wish to play the same character on the screen again. Gossip mills were abuzz with the fact that Karan reportedly offered Rs 40 crore to Vijay for the Hindi remake but the actor wasn’t keen to take up the film.

The latest update about the Dear Comrade Hindi remake is that Shahid Kapoor has refused to do the Karan Johar’s production as well. If a Mumbai Mirror report is to be believed then, Shahid declined KJo’s offer as he did not wish to star in another remake of Vijay Deverkonda’s film. The report also states that this could have been the reason for Shahid’s presence at Karan Johar’s party that took place last Saturday.

On that note, recently in a GQ India interview, Shahid revealed how he felt while chilling actors like Deepika Padukone, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor and others at Johar’s party. “I kind of feel like I don’t belong here, I feel like a newcomer. I need to figure out this new room, and this new club that I’ve entered. Even though I’ve been here for 15-16 years, it’s not my comfort zone, I need to get my head around it. I can’t (afford to) feel like I know exactly what’s going on, and exactly what I need to do next. So, I’m trying to keep it simple, and eventually, I’ll go with my instinct and my gut,” he said.

As for Dear Comrade Hindi remake, it remains to be seen as to which actor will eventually reprise the role of Vijay Deverakonda.
