Selena Gomez: Treat other people the way you wish you were treated

Pop singer Selena Gomez has battled a number of health issues like lupus, which is caused due to problems in the immune system and a kidney transplant. Yet, people are critical about her weight, appearance. In an interview with Raquelle Stevens for an episode of Giving Back Generation, Selena spoke about how body-shaming messed her up. She said, “I experienced (body shaming) with my weight fluctuation for the first time.” Further on, she stated, “I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me that’s when I really started noticing more of the body image stuff.”

Gomez was away from social media for a while. She is back now and does not feel the need to post a lot of stuff on the platform. She said, “I’m very happy with living my life and being present. Because that’s it. Similar to me posting a photo and walking away; for me that’s it. I will do a red carpet, I will do whatever; I don’t need to see it; I participated; I felt wonderful and that’s where the extent of it is. I don’t care to expose myself to everyone and hear what they have to say.”

The young lady said that she hoped that young women would learn to self-love and not try to chase a set image. She feels that is what is demolishing them. She shared, “They want to be a completely different person, but that’s not what’s inside of them.” She now swears by a golden rule, “Treat other people the way you wish you were treated.”
