Property worth lakhs of rupees has been destroyed in a devastating fire which broke out in a market in border town of Uri in this north Kashmir early Monday, official sources said.
Fire broke out in a shop at Uri market in the wee hours of Monday. However, before the fire tenders could reach the spot locals joined the fire fighting operation.
Fire tenders were rushed in from different areas to control the leaping flames. The inferno destroyed about half- a-dozen shops.
However, there was no report of any injury in the fire, the sources said. The cause of fire was being ascertained.
Police have registered a case and initiated proceedings. (UNI)
