In the run-up to the coming up Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Bharatiya Janata Party’s election campaign ‘proper’ by addressing a mega public meeting today. The state BJP unit, which had launched state-wide Modi-Vijaya Sankalpa Yathra, had invited the PM to address a public meeting in this backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region and Mr. Modi would also hold an interaction with the beneficiaries of various Central Governments’ schemes.
The Prime minister by addressing a public meeting at Kalaburagi, considered as the Congress bastion and the citadel of the Congress group leader in the Lok Sabha, Mr Mallikarjuna Kharge, proves important for the saffron Party as it wants to defeat Mr. Kharge, who has not lost a single election in his 55-year political career, for the first time. The State BJP leaders, including State BJP unit president B S Yeddyurappa and the former deputy chief minister R Ashok and others, are making all efforts to make the event a big success.
Congress party received a jolt in the region with its MLA, Umesh Jadhav, quitting the party and his Assembly seat by submitting his resignation to Speaker K Ramesh Kumar, on Monday, is also expected to formally join the BJP in the presence of the Prime Minister, the BJP sources said. On the occasion, the prime minister will also inaugurate a Women hostel constructed at a cost of over Rs 14 crore, for the students of the Northern-Eastern states, studying in Karnataka. The Hostel has been constructed in the Jnana Bharati campus of the Bengaluru University, and the Prime minister will declare open in Kalaburagi, the sources said.
