The high court on Wednesday ordered notices to the state and central governments in a PIL seeking night-traffic ban along the 11km stretch of state highway-90, which passes through Nagarahole wildlife reserve. According to petitioners HM Prakasha and AM Mahesh, the night-traffic ban on Mysuru-Virajpet Road near Matthigodu elephant camp is necessary to secure right of way for Asiatic elephants. They claimed the expert committee constituted by the forest department in March 2018 to probe the deaths of elephants and suggest measures to prevent the same, has failed to meet even once during the last 10 months. Apart from roads which pass through the forest, railway fences installed by the forest department and electric fences by land owners have become death traps for elephants, they added.
The HC directed the government advocate on Wednesday to place before it details of the number of complaints registered against Ponzi companies and the status of probe against them.
The next hearing is after 10 days. Imran Pasha and Nazia Banu claimed these companies have cheated poor people by promising high returns on their deposits.
