Mysuru sub-registrar offices to function smoothly


The disruption in services at the sub-registrar offices in the last few days on account of short supply of paper, printer cartridges and other computer peripherals is expected to end with the Commissioner of Stamps and Registration permitting the authorities to purchase the essential items locally.

Vijaylakshmi Inamdar, Mysuru District Registrar, told The Hindu that she had taken the necessary permission from the Commissioner of the Stamps and Registration Department on Monday and assured that the sub-registrar offices across the district would offer services smoothly from Tuesday.

Services had been affected across many offices in Mysuru district over the last few weeks after the State government’s contract with a private company for computerised registration at sub-registrar offices in the State expired on March 31, 2019.

Though the contract ended in February 2019, the department managed to convince the private agency to extend the contract till March end. Ever since the first week of April, the offices across the district were facing a short supply of stationery and other essential items leading to disruption in services.

In several offices, the operators had purchased the essential stationery items needed for registration, an employee at the Mysuru North sub-registrar office said. The department, however, intervened and asked the officials to purchase paper, toner cartridges and other essential items locally. The stationery and other items purchased in the first week of April were also exhausted, forcing many offices to suspend their work from Monday.

On Monday evening, Ms. Inamdar said essential stationery will be purchased and normal services will resume from Tuesday. Sources said the State government was not in position to invite fresh tenders in view of the Lok Sabha polls that are under way.
