Hubballi: The Railway Ministry has given the nod for electrification of the railway line between Hubballi and Bengaluru and it will be taken up after the line-doubling work between the two cities, Pralhad Joshi, MP, has said.
Speaking to presspersons after flagging off the services of the Hubballi-Chickbenakal fast passenger here on Saturday, Mr. Joshi said that the line-doubling work is scheduled to be completed by 2019.
Mr. Joshi said that once the work gets completed, the travel time between the cities will automatically get reduced.
He said that he had urged the Union government to complete the Ginigera-Raichur (part of Munirabad Mehboobnagar line) project at the earliest as availability of land for the project was not an issue.
On the pending Hubballi-Ankola railway line, he said that recently the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change had asked the State government to hand over revenue land to compensate for the loss of forest land due to the project.
General Manager of South Western Railway A.K. Gupta said that the new broad gauge railway line between Ginigera and Raichur will be completed in the next three years. Mr. Gupta said the new line sanctioned in 2012 was being laid at a cost of Rs.1,390 crore.
