Bengaluru: Around 64,864 children were vaccinated in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits on Day two of Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign.
Dr Kalavathi, reproductive and child health officer, BBMP, said, “149 schools have not consented for the vaccination. They include Baldwins, National Public School, Bishop Cotton and Delhi Public School.”
Bengaluru Urban RCHO, Dr Mahesh said, “Around 89 schools in our district have not consented to vaccination. We will cover all schools that have consented and then focus on those that are resisting.”
Ruling out any kind of resistance from parents in Dharwad, District Health Office DrRajendra Doddamani said they have covered 158 schools in the district.
“A total 5.95 lakh children are yet to be vaccinated in the district. The initial seven days’ drive will concentrate on schools and for the next seven days children of anganwadis will be vaccinated. During final seven days, children left out in the schools would be covered,” he added.
Most parents in Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar belt are not getting their children vaccinated out of fear that the vaccines contain harmful chemicals and can have medical consequences.
Mysuru District Health officer B Basavaraju, meanwhile, asked parents to cooperate and not to panic because of rumours being circulated on social media.
In Mysuru, the department has a target to vaccinate 7.85 lakh children, of which already 1.4 lakh children have been covered. In all 3,078 more schools will be covered.
Dakshina Kannada district health department has covered 1.2 lakh children in 475 schools. On the second day, 228 schools covered and 45,904 children were vaccinated.
Kodagu district has achieved only 25.57 per cent in vaccination against Measles-Rubella by vaccinating 33,046 children in two days. Kodadu district Health Officer Dr O R Srirangappa is hopeful of covering all the children.
In Udupi, the officials achieved 15.50 per cent on first day by covering 37, 415 children in three taluks on first day in vaccination against Measles-Rubella. On second day, the achievement is only 13.28 per cent covering 32,066 children. “Udupi has target of 2, 41,392 children for vaccination,” district health officer DrRohini informed.
