The ICAR-Indian Institution of Horticultural Research (IIHR) organized the Mango and Jackfruit Fair2019 at Hessarghatta campus on 28th and 29th may, 2019. Where an institute showcased more than 750 varieties of Mango collected and conserved from different parts of globe and more than 110 varieties of Jack fruit collected and conserved from different part of the country, where farmers showcased and sold their own varieties.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Vice Chancellor, UAS, Bangalore, Dr Venkatesh, Director of Horticulture, Govt. of Karnataka was guest of honour and the programme was presided over by DR. M R Dinesh, Director, ICAR-IIHR.
The programme is attended by the Scientists, Mango and Jackfruit farmers from nearby districts and the citizens of Bengaluru and other Mango and Jackfruit lovers. The public enjoyed the rich knowledge of Mango and Jackfruit and savour the unique flavor of different Mango and Jackfruits.
A special corner of value-added jackfruit products viz. ice creams, papads, pickles, bakery products, panaka were displayed and the progressive nurserymen are exbhiting planting material for sale. The institute is also making available various varieties viz. alphaso, raspuri, bangenapalli, Dasheri and Arka Puneet (Hybrid) of Mango on sale for the visitors. During the exhibition, Arka urban Horticulture kits were released for public use.
