Mahindra and Mahindra Limited inaugurated its second off road training academy in Kolambe under Mahindra Adventure brand. This academy is spread over 150 acres and offers state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including wireless-equipped Mahindra Thar 4×4 CRDe training vehicles.
There are eight topographical challenges. The mountainous terrain is a challenge during monsoon, said trainer Manish. The academy will run two courses — a basic-level called Getting Dirty and intermediate-level called Trail Survivor.
The advanced course dubbed Global Explorer will continue at the headquarters in Igatpuri. The courses will be on weekends, with basic training on Saturday mornings. The Trail Survivor course will be from Saturday afternoon till Sunday. There will be tailor-made courses for corporates. Bijoy Kumar Y, chief of adventure initiatives, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd said, “After running the first such academy in Igatpuri successfully for five years, we are geared up to share a spirit of adventure with off loading enthusiasts in the coastal district. There are enthusiasts in Sakleshpura, Kodagu and Kerala. Mangaluru is a central point to connect all such enthusiasts as it is well-connected by road, train and air.” The off roading enthusiasts community is growing at a steady pace, he said and added that “Our off-road training academies will allow adventure enthusiasts to hone their skills and test the tough and rugged capacity of Mahindra vehicles.”
He said the level one course will focus on allowing the participants to enjoy 4X4 driving in a safe and controlled environment. The level two course is trail survivor where is theory is more technical,— delving deeper into the vehicle’s dynamics, and driving techniques. The obstacles are tougher, along with the added challenge of night off-roading.
He said that the first academy at Igatpuri, which was set up in March 2013, has trained over 1,600 drivers so far from across the country. The Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd will also launch its off road training academy at Shillong and Chandigarh in future. With two expert trainers, the Academy in Mangaluru will have local trainers as well.
