Katrina Kaif on turning producer: Films under my banner may be a little off-beat

Katrina Kaif’s performance alongside Salman Khan in her big-ticket release Bharat is all one can talk about. The Ali Abbas Zafar directorial which hit the silver screens on Eid and saw fans flocking to the theatres to celebrate the festival in the best way possible. Needless to say, Katrina has been garnering headlines for her acting chops while portraying the character of Kumud Raina aka Madame sir, her enigmatic curls and chaste Hindi.

In fact, the actress has been on the lookout for meatier parts and envisions of doing more women-centric films. In fact, she even opened up about the same recently and told Mumbai Mirror how despite her desire, she can only choose from the options that are offered to her. She said, “I hear almost every script that comes to me and besides action, I also want to experiment with other genres, like a psychological thriller and a comedy. But you can only select from what is offered to you.”

But that doesn’t mean she can’t make her own films. Sharing her plans about turning producer, the diva said, “The films under my banner may be smaller and a little off-beat but they will be a journey we can go on together.” When quizzed if she will she act in these films? She quipped, “Of course,” but then concluded with – “For now, it’s a yes.”

Not just that. She also revealed about her upcoming projects including reuniting with Akshay Kumar for Rohit Shetty’s Sooryvanshi. While Akshay is busy shooting in Thailand right now, he will soon fly back for the next schedule with Katrina which will be filmed Ramoji Filmcity in Hyderabad. “I start shooting the next schedule by June-end,” added Katrina. Reportedly, the team will finish a substantial portion of the film by the end of it leaving out only a couple of songs. The actress further revealed that the Akshay, who is she is collaborating with for the seventh time, is a “chilled-out person to work with. He’s a thorough professional and very accommodating with his costars.”

Sooryavanshi will be produced under the banners of Dharma Productions along with Cape of Good Films and Rohit Shetty Picturez. Akshay Kumar will play the character of kickass ATS (Anti-Terrorist Squad) chief Veer Sooryavanshi in the film. It was earlier scheduled to release in December this year but it later changed to Eid 2020. The film will clash with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshallah starring Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt.

For those of you who are not in the know, talks are also on about the third instalment of the Tiger franchise helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Speaking on that, she informed, “Ali has not shared his idea with me but then with Ali, I’m always the last one to know (laughs). He is very secretive and keeps his scripts close to his chest till the last minute despite me being a good friend.”
