Congress party in Karnataka on Wednsday protested against a series of raids by Income Tax department officials targeting various political activists and leaders including Minister C S Puttaraju and other JD(S) supporters.
The IT officials conducted raids on the houses of businessmen, politicians and State government officers in multiple locations on Thursday.
According to official sources, the raids were conducted on the houses of the Minor Irrigation Minister C S Puttaraju and his relatives in Mandya district, and leaders of the Congress houses and the offices of the PWD in Hassan district.
Speaking to reporters KPCC President Dinesh Gundurao said Congress party had protested against the dictatorial attitude of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was using central agencies to harass opposition party leaders and their supporters in the guise of IT raids.
‘’Mr. Modi wants to eradicate political parties in the country that are opposed to the BJP. This is his agenda. His next target will be media organizations”, he stated.
Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy lashed out at Mr. Modi on IT raids in Karnataka. “Narendra Modi’s real surgical strike is out in the open through IT raids. This is nothing but a ‘revenge game’. It is highly deplorable to use govt machinery, corrupt officials to harass opponents during election time.” Kumaraswamy tweeted this morning.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. G Parameshwara said the state Intelligence department officials had alerted the government over IT raids against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and his supporters. The IT raids are politically motivated, he alleged.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the BJP government had instigated IT raids on Congress and JD(S) leaders during 2018 Assembly elections. Now it was happening ahead of Lok Sabha elections. IT department is free to act against those who are at fault. But why not a single BJP leader was targeted by the department in Karnataka”, he questioned.
He alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was misusing the IT department for its political ends and people were watching this. Whatever the Modi government do to harass the opposition leaders, it will be the people who will have the final say and they will teach the BJP a bitter lesson in the coming election, he added.
In Mandya district, JD(S) supporters protested against IT raids on Mr. Puttaraju, his relatives and associates in Pavandavapura.
A large number of IT officials with central force protected raided the home of Mr. Puttaraju at Chinakurali village, besides several other places of his followers in different parts of Karnataka.
JD(S) worker blocked Srirangapatna—Bidar National Highway in Srirangapatna leading to huge vehicular pile up between Mysuru and Bengaluru.
