Heavy rain uproots trees and brings down electricity poles

A downpour accompanied by strong wind and hails lashed the city on Thursday night uprooting at least 100 tress in city including about 20 from Avalahalli, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Girinagar, Bytarayanapura, Shantinagar, and Hanumanthanagar.

Five trees fell at Hanumanthanagar alone. Two cars and an auto were damaged on 2nd cross, 4th main at Hanumanthanagar after three trees got uprooted.

At least three electricity poles fell, one each on Richmond Road, at Hanumanthanagar, and Ashoknagar, disrupting power supply.

Power supply was disrupted in many areas across south Bengaluru, including Chamarajpet, Girinagar, Basavanagudi, Jayanagar and N.R. Colony.

As many as 95 electric poles were broken according to BESCOM stats. RR Nagar, Gattigere, Hanumanthanagar, Srinagar most affected.

Heavy rain was reported at Malleswaram, Rajajinagar, Yeshwantpur, Jalahalli, Majestic, Hebbal, Vidyaranyapura Yelahanka, Jayanagar, J.P. Nagar and K.R. Puram. Shivajinagar, Cubbon Park, Halasuru, and Koramangala also received a good amount of rainfall.

Hailstorms were reported at Rajarajeshwari Nagar, K.R. Puram and the area around ITI, lasting about 10 minutes. Much of the rain was received around 10.30 p.m. Heavy rainfall resulted in water logging in several underpasses. Traffic was disrupted at Koramangala, Majestic, and Shantinagar.

Meteorological department officials are expecting rain on Friday and Saturday.
