Give priority to tank-filling projects: Narayanaswamy

A Narayanaswamy, MP-elect, said that under the Upper Bhadra Project, tank-filling projects should be given top priority.

Speaking here on Friday after checking the progress of the Lakkavvanhalli project, he said that the Tunga and Bhadra rivers project had assigned 29.9 tmcft of water. Up to 17.4 tmcft of water will be removed in two stages from the Tunga and in two stages from the Bhadra. The water will be taken to the canal of Ajjampur and pumped to Chitradurga from there.

Irrigation facility

The project will provide irrigation facilities in the districts of Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davangere, and Tumakuru for 2,25 lakh hectares.

The project will fill a total of 367 tanks in the main portion of the state.

“Because there are complaints about fluoride content in water sources in the district of Chitradurga, the issue will also be resolved significantly by completing this project as individuals get decent drinking water,” he added. Mr. Narayanaswamy said that in the early completion of the project there are some technical issues that would be addressed with the Deputy Commissioner.

He also said that in the next two months the Upper Bhadra water in Hiriyur taluk will reach Vani Vilas Sagar. The officers involved were instructed to prepare a comprehensive list of tanks that are not in the list of tanks that would be filled out under the project as the technical issues would be discussed with the officers involved for not including them, he added.

He also said a total of 27 tanks will be filled out under the project in Hosadurga, 21 in Holalkere, 32 in Hiriyur, 51 in Challakere, and 20 in Molakalmur taluks.
