An unexplained delay in serving a takeout order led to a brawl here at Hotel Empire’s Kammanahalli branch. The victim alleges that he was assaulted when he questioned the delay in providing his order. The victim was on his way home when he stopped at the restaurant to take a parcel of kababs and was made to wait for nearly an hour after he had paid the bill. When he enquired about the status of his order, the kitchen staff allegedly beat him up with vessels. The victim has filed a police complaint at the Banaswadi police station. The victim has been identified as RV Maurya Raj, a resident of RS Palya in Kammanahalli.
The incident happened last week around 10.30 pm. The Empire Hotel is located on Nehru Road, on Kammanahalli main road. A medico legal case has also been registered pertaining to the attack. However, the hotel management claims that it was the customer who was at fault and the allegations made against the staff of assaulting him with vessels are false and baseless.
“The customer who ordered food was under the influence of alcohol. He was with a few others and they were shouting at our staff, while standing on the road. As there were many customers, orders were getting delayed. When the complainant and his friends started shouting at the staff, we enquired with our staff what was causing the delay. During the argument, both the parties started pushing each other but the complainant was not beaten at all. Immediately the police came to the spot and we went to the police station. As it was a trivial issue, we sorted it out at the station. Despite this, I don’t know why a complaint has been registered against us,” said Abdul Khader, General Manager (Operations), Empire restaurant.
A case of causing hurt (IPC 323), causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means (IPC 324) and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace (IPC 504) has been registered against the staff who allegedly attacked the victim “It was a trivial issue which escalated due to heated arguments between both the parties. The police control room was informed about the incident and the control room personnel flashed the message to us. The patrolling police went to the spot and took both the parties into custody. Even the hotel management has given their statements against the complainant,” said an officer who is a part of the investigations. The Banaswadi police have registered a case and investigations are on.
