Kedarnath director Abhishek Kapoor’s fallout with the film’s producer Prernaa Arora has been splashed across tabloids for the last few days. Abhishek wanted Prernaa’s production house KriArj out of the picture for their alleged financial interferences and lack of transparency. Meanwhile, Prernaa has alleged that it was Abhishek’s unprofessionalism and disorganised handling of Kedarnath that caused the rift.
Even as the fate of the film hangs in the balance, DNA reports that the filmmaker has made more foes than one, by bad-mouthing several Bollywood bigwigs, like Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty.
It is no secret that Kedarnath is set to lock horns at the box office with Aanand L Rai’s Zero on December 21 this year. While Prernaa was keen on not clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s film, Abhishek paid no heed to her suggestion. A source is quoted as saying, “Her suggestion hurt Gattu’s ego. So, he tweeted that Kedarnath would release with Zero, even after Prernaa had officially announced that the film would come on a different date.”
Apparently, Abhishek has been sending messages to industry insiders, saying nasty things about Shah Rukh Khan and Zero. “Right before the Zero teaser was released on January 1, Gattu sent out a text saying he had watched the teaser and the song and felt SRK looked like an alien in it. He has been ridiculing the actor and his look as a dwarf ever since. He is confident that his film will be better than Zero,” a recipient of one of the messages said.
Not just Shah Rukh, Karan Johar has been at the receiving end of Abhishek’s negativity too. Everyone knows that before Sara signed Kedarnath, she was in talks to be launched in a Karan Johar production. However, it did not work out, and Karan focussed his energies on Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor’s debut instead.
Janhvi is all set to enter Bollywood with Shashank Khaitan’s Dhadak, which is inspired by the Marathi blockbuster Sairat. Janhvi and Sara have been pitted against each other ever since it was announced that both star kids will pursue acting as a career, but Abhishek is unfazed. He has reportedly been making fun of the first-look posters of Dhadak ever since they were unveiled.
“He sent a few texts saying he feels it’s a rehash of a South film. He also said that the posters lacked steam. Hence, he didn’t consider Janhvi as a threat to Sara,” an insider revealed.
If Kedarnath releases on December 21, it will face stiff competition not only from Zero, but also Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, starring Ranveer Singh. Simmba is slated to release on December 28. Ranveer is in top form, with his act in Padmaavat getting lots of applause, while Rohit Shetty is known to have a Midas touch, with all his films faring extremely well at the box office. Needless to say, Simmba is one of the most aniticipated films of the year.
However, Abhishek Kapoor is not bothered by this either. “He is extremely sure that Rohit won’t be able to wrap up Simmba in time and it won’t hit theatres on the decided date,” a source said.
