Cong leaders will campaign for JD(S) together: Mahesh

Mysuru

As per the coalition agreement, Congress and Janata Dal (S) leaders will jointly take part in public rallies ahead of Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka Tourism minister S R Mahesh said here on Friday.

Speaking to newsmen he said “We will work in a disciplined manner to achieve that goal of ensuring maximum seats for Congress and JD(S) in the state and defeat the BJP’’.

He said Nikhil Kumaraswamy will be our candidate in Mandya, Dhruvanarayan in Chamarajanagar, Vijayashankar in Mysuru – Kodagu. If there is any misunderstanding, bring it to our notice. Strict action needs to be taken in such situations, he said commenting on lack of interest among Congress leaders to seek votes for JD(S) candidates in eight segments.

Responding to K R Nagar Congress leaders supporting Sumalatha contesting as an independent in Mandya segment, he said that it has been brought to the notice of Congress leaders and Mr. Siddaramaiah has promised to look into the issue.

“This real problem is in old Mysuru. This election is being fought on the basis of faith. We are hopeful of the problems in Mysuru and Mandya being solved. Mr. Vijayashankar and Nikhil will win by a huge margin and there is no doubt about this.

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah and district in-charge minister G T Devegowda of JD(S) will also attend the public meetings together. JD(S) party leadership has given strict instructions to JD(S) ministers and MLAs on following coalition dharma. The leaders will be responsible if the vote share becomes less in their region, he stated.

If any coalition candidate is sidelined, the leaders will be made to answer after the polls. The vote shares will be checked on the basis of the Assembly election vote share. Congress leadership will have to ask its cadre to toe the party line as well, he added.

“Those who don’t follow the coalition dharma will be warned first and action will follow next. Congress is also doing the same. This policy will only help us win the polls. No one should hurl personal abuses at other party members and supporters. The party seriously considers personal abuses made by our leaders against Yash and Darshan,” Mr. Mahesh said.
