Citizens, driving schools protest hike in LL, DL fees

Bengaluru: The steep increase in learning as well as driving license fee has drawn flak from the citizens. Hundreds of people, including the proprietors of driving schools and tours and travel agents, staged a flash protest in front of the Regional Transport office in Jnana Bharathi here on Saturday.

They were shocked to see that the learning as well as driving license fee were hiked exorbitantly from Saturday.

The learning license (LL) fee was increased by almost seven times. Earlier, it was Rs 30 and it has now been increased to Rs 200.

Similarly, the driving license (DL) fee was also increased by almost three-fold. The present DL fee is Rs 700 as against Rs 250, the earlier fee.

If anyone wants to get a DL for both two and four-wheeler vehicles at a time, he/she has to pay Rs 1,200. This is four times of Rs 300, the fee fixed earlier. This apart, the license renewal fee was also increased, according to the license holders.

The proprietor of a driving school in Banashankari 2nd Stage, who did not wished to be identified, alleged that the fee was hiked unilaterally and arbitrarily.

The protesters have planned to launch a massive protest against the hike in license fee in front of the RTO office in Jnana Bharathi on Monday.
