BJP using media to destabilise govt: KPCC chief

Bengaluru

Scotching rumours about his party MLAs leaving the Congress to join BJP, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Dinesh Gundu Rao on Thursday cautioned the media, particularly electronic media, to “get their facts right.”

Addressing presspersons here after his return from Delhi where he attended a meeting with the high command, Mr. Rao alleged that the BJP is continuously “conspiring” to destabilise the government and the party was “using the media” for its gains. “Some television channels are acting as spokespersons of BJP. We are noticing that they are continuously reporting in favour of one party. They should be neutral. If they continue to do so, we will not hesitate to file defamation cases against them,” he said.

“We know that BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurrapa is ready to spend any amount to poach MLAs. He is trying to mobilise funds through his gang of financiers, through hawala, ” he alleged.

Reiterating that there is no truth in reports of some legislators going to a resort in Mumbai or meeting the Governor or anyone leaving the party, the KPCC chief said: “No MLAs are leaving the party. The Jarkiholi brothers themselves have clarified that they are very much with the Congress. They were with me in Delhi and they have returned. You cannot assume someone is leaving the party even if they are out of town on personal work. The Belagavi issue has been resolved,” he said.

Replying to queries, he admitted that some legislators are having issues and are expressing it in public. “The party will advise them to not make statements that will dent the party’s image. But that doesn’t mean they are leaving the party.”
