Davangere: After allegedly making derogatory remarks against Kaginele mutt seer, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madhuswamy has further irked the Kuruba community (shepherd) members by not tendering an apology.
With the by-elections fast approaching, though Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has apologised on behalf of the minister, the protests against the minister have started across the state. A massive protest was held at Huliyaru Town demanding the resignation of Madhuswamy for his recent statement against Eshwaranandapuri Swamiji of the Hosadurga branch mutt and also the row of renaming a circle named after Kanakadasa in Huliyar.
Sensing that the situation may go out of control, the BJP leaders have got into ‘damage control’ mode and in this regard, the leaders have decided to arrange a meeting between both Madhuswamy and the seer. It is said that the meeting will be held in presence of Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai. Sri Niranjananandapuri Swamiji and Sri Eshwaranandapuri Swamiji of the Kaginele Gurupeeth will be present in the meeting to be held at Bellodi of Harihar taluk, where the branch mutt is situated.
In yet another move to fire-fight the situation, BJP state leadership has already stripped Madhuswamy off his responsibility to lead KR Pete by-elections. Further, the CM has also asked Madhuswamy to refrain from making any statements against the Kuruba community.
The problem started with the dropping of the name ‘Kanakadasa’ from a circle in Huliyar in Chikkanayakanahalli. The public alleged that Madhuswamy and his team were responsible for the same. However, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has now promised the Kuruba community members that after the conclusion of the Assembly by-polls a new circle will be built and named after Kanakadasa.
