Bengaluru restaurant infested with rats fined Rs 5,000

Bengaluru: A restaurant in BTM Layout was fined Rs 5,000 for having an unhygienic kitchen. On January 19, Mohammed Irfan, a resident of Gurappanapalya, found a cockroach in the biryani he had got parcelled from Tandoor Garden restaurant on 100 Feet ring road at BTM Layout 1st Stage.

In order to lodge a complaint against the restaurant, he was directed by the Health department officials to speak to Bhagyalakshmi from BBMP. She asked him to submit the biryani sample to Dasappa Hospital lab for tests.

However, the lab refused to accept the sample without the authorities being present. The next day, Irfan met ward corporator Devdas who then directed a health inspector to inspect the restaurant’s kitchen. During the inspection, according to Irfan, unhygienic conditions were found in the kitchen. The hotel owner was fined `5,000.
