After Mersal, AR Rahman to compose music for Vijay’s next

After the blockbuster Hindi film Ghajini starring Aamir Khan, the Academy award-winning composer AR Rahman and filmmaker AR Murugadoss are likely to reunite for Thalapathy 62, which is currently in the pre-production stage. “After the superhit album for Mersal, Vijay has expressed his interest to AR Murugadoss in bringing Rahman on board. Aalaporaan Thamizhan has created a significant impact on Tamil film buffs, and Vijay bonded well with Rahman at the success meet of Mersal hosted by Thalapathy. However, Rahman and AR Murugadoss are yet to discuss the timeline for the project. If everything goes well, Rahman will compose music for the much-awaited film,” informs a source in the know.

Meanwhile, AR Rahman has opted out of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Telugu epic Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy directed by Surender Reddy of Dhruva fame. The movie also features Amitabh Bachchan, Jagapathi Babu, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sudeep, and Praigya Jaiswal. Confirming the news, Rahman told Deccan Chronicle: “I was supposed to do it, but things didn’t work as per my schedule. Sometimes, despite wanting to work, you can’t take up everything because there’s only a certain amount of work one can take up.” (Also Read: Mersal box office update:Thalapathy Vijay’s film becomes the highest grossing Tamil film, crosses the Rs 150 crore mark)

Murugadoss is planning to start the shooting from mid-January and complete the project before August. The team is targeting a Diwali 2018 release alongside two other biggies including Thala Ajith’s Viswasam directed by Siva and produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, and Suriya 36 directed by Selvaraghavan and produced by Dream Warrior Pictures. Malayalam cinematographer Girish Gangadharan, best known for his work in Dulquer Salmaan’s ‘Kali’ and director Lijo Jose Pelliserry’s ‘Angamaly Diaries,’ has been signed to wield the camera for the project.
