Dakshina Kannada district administration and Tourism department jointly organised first ever two-day river festival, which was formally inaugurated at the Phalguni river bank in Kuloor on Saturday, January 12.
The event aims at boosting the concept of river tourism and creating awareness on eco-tourism. Minister for Urban Development and Housing and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister U T Khader inaugurated the fest and asked the private organisations to host programmes in their respective areas so as to attract people towards the river and to boost eco-tourism.
Informing about the two-day river festival, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district Dr. S Sasikanth Senthil informed that water sports, river cruise, floating food stalls, food exhibition stalls will be the major attractions of river festival. People can enjoy peddle boat, speed boat during the two-day fest.
There will also be cultural programmes at Bangra Kuloor and people can access the venue from Kuloor to Bangra Kuloor through boats. Private bus facility also has been arranged to reach the venue,” he said.
After the formal inauguration, an arrangement was made to ferry people from Kuloor to Bangra Kuloor, where several events have been organised as part of the river festival. Social activist and singer Nada Maninalkuru enthralled the audience including Minister U T Khader through his songs while they traveled in the boat.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kumar, Mayor Bhaskar K, Commissioner of Police T R Suresh, Tulu Sahitya Academy president A C Bhandary among others were present.
