Cong calls for bundh on Jan 10 against merger of Vijaya Bank with BoB

Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee will hold dharna in front of all the branches of Vijaya Bank in district opposing the move of merging Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda, on January 10.

Speaking to reporters at district Congress office on Tuesday, January 8, District Congress Committee president and MLC Hareesh Kumar said, “though Vijaya Bank has been earning profit, the Union government has decided to merge it with Bank of Baroda, while the BoB is running under losses.

However, MP Nalin Kumar did not oppose the move and failed to convince the Central government about the need to retain Vijaya Bank’s identity, ” he said.

“If at all the government intends to merge one Bank with another Bank, it should merge Bank of Baroda with Vijaya Bank, not Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda. Bank of Baroda has more branches when compared to Vijaya Bank, but the latter is performing way better than Bank of Baroda.

Hence, the government should not go ahead with its decision of merging Vijaya Bank with any other Banks “, Hareesh Kumar added. “The scheduled protest will be held in front of all Branches of Vijaya Banks, located in various parts of the district.

The one-hour long protest will be held between 10 am and 11 am”, he informed. Congress leaders like Shashidhar Hegde, A C Vinayraj, Neeraj Paul among others were present.
