Pink Taxis, a fleet of airport cabs for women commuters driven by women drivers, will be launched at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Monday. Initially, 10 such cabs will be introduced to the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation’s (KSTDC) fleet of 850 airport cabs at KIA.
The cabs, which will come with a pink bumper for easy recognition, can be availed by women commuters 24×7 through KSTDC’s round-the-clock call centre number 080-44664466.
The tariff has been fixed at Rs 21.5 per km between 6am and midnight and at Rs 23.5 per km between midnight and 6am.
The initiative is aimed at improving the safety of women passengers, especially those travelling alone, say authorities. Cabs in the GoPink fleet will be equipped with GPS tracking systems, radio frequency identification tags, mobile display terminal devices and panic buttons. They will be monitored round the clock.
The 20 women drivers who have been on boarded by the KSTDC are also capable of self-defence, say authorities.
