There is still no trace of the Kerala-based marketing manager who went missing in Chikkamagaluru during a solo bike ride to Shivamogga on Sunday, police said. Thirty-four-year-old S Sandeep from Calicut was riding his UM Renegade Commando bike (KL-18-V-911) and had entered Chikkamagaluru district on Sunday morning.
His vehicle was found parked on a roadside next to Tunga river near NR Pura, a place close to popular pilgrim centre Sringeri. A team of Kerala police arrived at NR Pura on Wednesday and joined local police in the search operation. Police said Sandeep’s call detail records showed that he had last called his wife Shiji on Sunday morning.
“We’re awaiting details like the time and duration of the call. After the call, Sandeep’s cellphone was switched off,” police said. His wallet and ID cards were found with his luggage in the vehicle. On Sunday, Sandeep had posted on Instagram an image showing a T-shirt with ‘Wander Lust’ scribbled on it. His hashtag read “#tripping#longtime#gogetit#wanderlust”.
Police collected information from locals with whom Sandeep had interacted on Sunday morning. “Sandeep had stopped near a small eatery before NR Pura for a quick breakfast and tea. The eatery owner said he appeared normal but could not converse much with him due to language issue,” police said.
Father of a UKG-going son and working as a marketing manager in a private company, Sandeep, a passionate biker, had started from Calicut on Saturday morning after telling his family and friends that he would ride to Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru.
However, he went missing since Sunday and his family members had registered a missing person complaint with Calicut police on Sunday. They alerted Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru police and passed on details.
