MCC seeks CSR funds to develop parks, circles

Mysuru

If everything goes as planned by the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), more parks and circles in Mysuru may soon become the talk of the town.

The MCC has proposed to draw funds available with industries under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for developing parks and circles with the aim of enhancing the beauty of the city and giving more lung spaces to its residents. Industries, business houses, hotels and other commercial establishments have already evinced interest in developing circles and parks, and approached the MCC.

“While it is not that the MCC could not develop them, we wanted the community to contribute towards the development of the city. Parks that are closer to star hotels have drawn the attention of the managements for adopting them for development and maintenance,” said MCC Commissioner K.H. Jagadish.

He told that the MCC has over 300 bigger and smaller parks under its limits and a few of them had been developed by the MCC using its funds.

The park in Nivedithanagar has become a ‘model’ for park development and has been drawing visitors even from neighbouring localities.

The commissioner said, “The MCC is in talks with those who had already come forward to develop parks and circles. If others also wish to contribute (subject to conditions laid down by the MCC), we would like to engage then in the process of development.”

A proposal has come to the MCC for beautifying Fountain Circle. Likewise, another corporate entity has come forward to develop the Millennium Circle in Bannimantap, the commissioner said.

If not all parks can be developed, at least a few of them can be developed whose maintenance can be looked after by the private players complying with the MCC’s conditions.

“Their effort will enhance their public image too,” he observed.
