While visiting the Kalpalli burial ground and electric crematorium, Gunashekar demanded installation of LED lights across the 84-acre property which had only one borewell. The property is the largest in Bangalore east. There was a tribe of goats feeding themselves on the garbage dumped in the cemetery.”We will allocate Rs 4-5 crore for building a new block to supplement the existing electric crematorium as there is adequate space and the demand is high,” said Gunashekar. The BBMP will allocate Rs 1 crore for the upkeep of the samadhi of Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, former President of India, at Kalpalli, he added.

Medi Agrahara electric crematorium

The crematorium was stinking when BBMP team along with reporters entered it. The staff at the crematorium have complained about shortage of manpower and defunct tube well.

Of the 12 electric crematoriums in the city, 11 do not have adequate air-cleaning facility (scrubber). Medi Agrahara electric crematorium at Yelahanka has the scrubber facility working to treat the air.

Yelahanka burial ground

The burial ground in Yelahanka spread across five acres, it displayed a deserted look with no custodians, no boundary wall, and cows feeding over the garbage. The graveyard did not have street lights, toilets or drinking water. On seeing that the cemetery has not been fenced and that an apartment is being constructed nearby, Gunashekar instructed the officials of Yelahanka zone to conduct a survey and submit the report.
