20 detentions and a week later, no arrests yet

Bengaluru: The Cubbon Park police who are investigating the alleged mass molestation that took place on New Year’s Eve, detained more than 20 people for inquiry, but no arrests were made as there was no credible evidence.

Police sources said that more than 100 people have been questioned but none of them have been arrested. “We are detaining people whom we saw in the CCTV footage that we have collected.

We have detained most of them who were present when police caned the unruly mob near Cauvery Emporium junction after New Year celebrations.”

Police said, “None of the media houses which had alleged mass molestation have shared information about the victims they have interviewed.

We are also collecting footage from commercial establishments. No one has come up with a complaint or information in this regard,” police said.

Bengaluru City Police registered four suo-motu cases — one in Ashoknagar, one in Indiranagar and two in Cubbon Park police station.
