The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) will provide water, toilets and sanitation facilities from next academic year to 10 government schools. These activities are carried out using corporate social responsibility funds donated by Sony.
Research Associate of TERI, PS Harika said that they had done a survey to understand the need of the government schools. “We conducted several awareness and sensitization programmes to bring about a behavioral change in terms of personal hygiene. We also organized fun activities for students, so that they would be encouraged to adopt these practices.”
“In the second phase, while continuing with these capacity- building measures, we will make hardware interventions like renovating toilets, installing new fixtures if needed, repainting them and installing filtration units for drinking water. These are likely to be ready by the next academic year,” Harika added.
